Committee Description:

The Continuing Education Budget Committee is an Administrative Governance Council participatory governance committee comprised of representation from Continuing Education faculty, administration, and staff. The role of the Budget Committee is to make recommendations to the Administrative Governance Council, optimizing resource allocations from all sources to accomplish the institutional mission.

Committee Membership:

Committee membership is comprised of an adequate number from Administration, Faculty, and Classified, providing a good cross-section of the institution. Faculty representation shall include at least one person from the Student Services division, one from Academic Programs, and one from Vocational Programs. One of the Classified Staff members will be the Accounting Supervisor. Administrators are appointed to the committee as warranted.

Committee Goals:

The inextricable connection between planning and budget dictates the twofold mission of this committee:

  1. To ensure budget recommendations will carry out the mission of Continuing Education as delineated in the Master Plan and Four Cornerstones for Our Future document.
  2. To review the budget allocation model of Continuing Education. This includes:
    • analyzing the impact of budget reductions/increases;
    • justifying the level of any additional funding in program allocations required to provide an appropriate schedule of classes and level of services;
    • justifying the level of any reduction in funding in program allocations;
    • reviewing fund request work-plans; and
    • ensuring represented constituents apprised of the budget development process and solicit input as needed.

Committee Procedures:

The Budget Committee will:

  • Establish general calendars to include identifying Instructional Improvement Fund Request due dates;
  • Maintain an open Fund Request policy;
  • Review Continuing Education and District funding reports annually;
  • Recommend at least one faculty member to the Academic Senate to participate on the District Planning and Budget Council with the V.P. of Administrative Service.

Committee Calendar:

Committee will meet no less than once per month at a regularly scheduled time. Meeting minutes will be posted. Meeting agendas and minutes will be posted on the Continuing Education web page at http://gov.sdce.edu/.
